Am I Pleasing to God?

I want to really be pleasing to God!!! What really pleases Him???

I Peter 2:20 “For what glory is it, if, when you are buffeted for your faults, you shall take it patiently? But if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.”

Wow. That’s a biggy! Imagine not reacting back when someone mishandles you or makes you feel bad. Those misunderstandings are a constant in most people’s lives. And the above verse is speaking specifically, that it is not your fault!

But of course, it is our responsibility to communicate and make sure that we’re on the same page. Nevertheless, we are to act righteously, not react. A big test is when we are driving on the road these days. Or is it just the Northwest?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, easier said that done.

Well, you don’t eat an elephant in one bite. It’s one bite at a time. And that is the way with all Christlikeness. Its ‘line upon line’, ‘precept upon precept’: for that glory to glory in your life.

Have you read a chapter of Proverbs each day, underlining the verse that speaks the most to you and pray over it and envision living it in your life for that day? Now, that is an exercise that bears lots of grrrreat fruit! God has plenty to say what pleases Him in that book.

God’s Word says over and over that if we hear Him, and obey, that that is our meat and His will for our lives. Well, being in His will is certainly a pleasing thing to anyone in authority! How much more to our heavenly loving Father.

So, we have two action words there. Hear> means we need to be in a state or position to hear Him. Aaaahhh. And we know that the enemy of God will try to rob us of our time and convince us that we are too busy. If you are too busy, then it’s a for sure thing you are out of the will of God.

We’re talking perpetually (busy) here. Not for that hour etc.

The other action word is, obey. That means that often your own understanding (and emotions) has to go out the window, and lean on the everlasting arms is a must. See Proverbs 3:1-8 for details. (Esp. 5&6.)

We also know that God loves the sacrifice of praise. Sacrifice means, it is a part of us that has to give something up. Normally it can be one of a few things: our time, our feelings, or our understanding. Each of us knows our particular struggle to praise God when our heart has just been mashed or circumstances have failed to bring joy to our heart.

God’s heart is so for us. He says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Kjv

It’s great in the NIV as well. “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Many people have given accounts of them having visited heaven. One gentleman reported of having seen tears from the Father’s eyes when He observed the one going through something horrible, yet they trusted and loved Him enough to be thankful toward Him, worshipping Him, knowing that He had it in control and that it would work toward the good.

They couldn’t see it, but believed it. Didn’t feel it, but purposed themselves to bless God in it rather than leaning on their own understanding.

This brought God great compassion and moved His heart. This is ultimate pleasing God.

How does our understanding do that? It can only do that in surrendering to God ~ knowing He is God.

And sometimes that can only happen because you are choosing to love God more than yourself. It’s a choice.

And also one favorite thing here of pleasing God…

Have you ever loved someone so much, that when they loved you back or pursued you, it thrilled your heart? Maybe just a pet you’ve owned. How satisfying, how pleasing it is when that pet climbs up to your lap or walks up beside you because he/she loves you so much. You cannot do wrong in their eyes!

And God our Father Who created us in His own image, Who imparted unto us a smidge of what He feels and thinks, feels the pleasure of us pursuing Him all the more!

Just think. If you had a child and the building he was in with lots of other children was about to burn down, whom would you go after first to save? Yes, your very own and then others if possible.

Well, our Heavenly Father gave up His only Son for us to live.

Why does He want us to live? Well, why did He create us? The answer is: for Himself.

He wants us to have eternal life because He wants to be with us! He wants to be one with us! He wants us all the time. He already has angels that praise and worship and serve Him all the time. But just think…we do it voluntarily.

And that is what we want our mindset to be. Voluntarily. Not because we have to ever!!!! That is not love. That is religion. That is being a Pharisee. We do it because we want to, and that is when God gets really pleased.

And in pleasing God, one step at a time, one day at a time, we are changed from Glory to Glory!

Let’s pray.

God, we want to fall in love with You so much that we are natural and always are voluntary in our love toward You. We know that nothing else satisfies. There is never a substitution for the unreal or fake.

Help us to press past our feelings and make decisions of love that bless You and fill us. We always choose to choose You. That is our love toward You.

Thank You that pleasing You is being in love with You ~ in all we do, in all we say & think.

I love you Dad. I love all of You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
